Sweet Success

Sweet Success at Our 2019 Ice Cream Eating Contest & Fundraiser!

Sunday, June 2, children and adults alike gathered at Southern Peak Brewery for our first-ever ice cream eating contest. Over $3,600 was raised at the event (wow!), including a $1,500 match by Wesley Moyer with Modern Woodmen of America.

This fundraiser supported our Apex Public Schools Foundation, a nonprofit, volunteer organization designed to help fund initiatives in the 18 Apex WCPSS schools.

Registered participants didn’t eat just any old ice cream—they dined on delicious vanilla scoops served by FRESH. Local Ice Cream, a locally-owned business with a new location in downtown Apex. Divided by age groups, participants raced to eat their bowls of ice cream—NO UTENSILS and NO HANDS!

No ice cream competition is complete without judges. Jacques Gilbert, an APSF Board member and former captain of Apex Police Department, and Miss Apex, Sydney McCoy, had a tough job: to identify who emptied their bowl first!

We could not have done it without the ice cream, the space, and the prizes donated by our community partners Southern Peak Brewery and FRESH. Local Ice Cream.

Children's faces were artfully painted, courtesy of Blue Lights College of Apex. Winners received prizes donated by local Apex businesses such as DEFY Apex and Whole Brain Escape.

Days before our one-year anniversary, we are grateful for such a successful event and all the support from the community. We look forward to more events, and to supporting students, teachers and schools with our Teacher Grant Program.
